When did you meet, and when did you get engaged? We had known each other through friends for a few years but in February 2008 we realised we were meant to be. Ed took me for a walk along our favourite coastal path in Torquay and popped the question at sunset in September 2011.

What date did you get married?
After buying a house and having our beautiful daughter, getting married on hold. This was until last Christmas when our families told us they thought it was about time that we tied the knot. We started planning our wedding in January 2014 and got married on 16th May 2014.

How did you approach wedding planning? What did you hope to achieve?
We wanted our wedding to have a ‘handmade’ feel to it, so it became my mission to make as much as I could myself, from the stationery to my bouquets. We also didn’t have a huge budget so we knew this would keep our costs down as well as giving a more personal touch. We had always known we wanted to get married by the sea so finding a venue with preferably a sea view became a priority to us. To us, the location was much more important than the venue itself.

What would your top tips be for somebody planning their wedding?
I think the most important thing to remember is the day is about your love for each other and try not to worry about all the small things or other people.
Research photographers and if you can pick someone who will do a pre-wedding shoot with you. This way you are sure that their ‘style’ is right for you.

You don’t need thousands of pounds to create your perfect day.
Don’t judge a book by its cover- a venue can be ‘dressed up’ to create the look and feel you want.
Plan for rain and shine- We were very lucky that we had a beautiful day- one of the hottest of the year so far, but you can never be sure what the weather will do.
