2014 has arrived. Yes – really! If you’re getting married this year, then the chances are, you’ve just kicked into wedding planning overdrive.
You’re also probably starting to think about that all important hen do! Charlotte, our lovely guest blogger, wrote a great piece earlier this week on bridal showers and now I’m pleased to showcase The Handmade Hen on Dotty Vintage Weddings!
When did I start the business?
I started The Handmade Hen just at the end of December 2012. After running creative workshops for members of the public for several years, I was approached by a bride who asked if I ran hen parties too, and so, The Handmade Hen was born! Needless to say, the hen party was a success – a jewellery making activity in a beautiful holiday cottage in Derbyshire.
Who works “behind the scenes” at the Handmade Hen?
Rachel Smtih (me) is the person who makes everything tick at Handmade Hen. I have been providing most of the crafty workshops for hens, but due to demand, I’ve just started taking on some lovely ladies to run other craft parties for me, so The Handmade Hen can offer more choice throughout the UK. This means we never have to turn down hen parties and disappoint brides & hens.
What can you offer me as a vintage bride-to-be?
Lots of our craft activities can be provided as a standalone vintage activity.
My vintage jewellery & accessories workshop is very popular, and I’ve tweeked for 2014, so that the hens can make their own jewellery collection based on the jewels worn by the fabulous starletts & influential women of the past such as Coco Chanel, Vivien Leigh, Ginger Rogers & Audrey Hepburn.
The Handmade Hen also offers vintage style cupcake decorating with pearls, lace effects, cameos & frills, which the hens will make.
We offer bunting making, knicker decorating & garter making, all using vintage laces, beads & ribbons, sourced especially for our vintage loving hens. Another new hen workshop is our decoupaged jewellery or tissue box, which our hens can decorate in a vintage style using pages from old books, pressed flowers & chalk paints.
If there’s a activity you would like to do, and you need a vintage twist, please do contact us and we can arrange this for you.
What areas of the UK do you cover, and how can I get in touch?
The Handmade Hen covers the whole of the UK. Please feel free to contact us by visiting the website, Facebook or Twitter page.
